Catawba Valley Farmers Market

May 9 @ 3:30 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 3:30pm on Thursday, repeating until May 24, 2019

Local growers, bakers and craftsmen at the Catawba Valley Farmers Market will begin the 2019 season on Thursday, May 9, just in time for Mother’s Day gift buying. This is the 10th year of providing locally-grown meats, fruits and vegetables, home-baked goods and handmade arts and crafts, providing additional income for local vendors while making fresh, high-quality foods available to the consumers. The Market is held both outside and inside the Catawba Community Center and is open on Thursdays through mid-October, from 3:30 to 7:00 pm., rain or shine.

Growers have been busy this spring getting their produce ready and they expect to have cooking greens, onions, radishes, and other seasonal produce. Additional foods will appear as the growing season progresses. Grass-fed beef and pork sausage and bacon will again be available. Several bakers will have cookies, cakes, fried pies and breads. To round out a delicious meal, look for eggs, honey, jams, pickles and apple butter. All vendors are local, with most of the food items produced within a 10 mile radius of the Market.

Planting time is upon us, whether that means vegetables or flowers. Vendors will have plenty, including potted plants and bedding plants as well as numerous hanging baskets.
New to the Farmers Market this year is a food truck. Buford’s BBQ will join us occasionally throughout the 2019 season, with pulled pork BBQ, sides and beverages. Chicken and baby back ribs will be available occasionally.

Look for jewelry, quilts and fabric crafts, primitive barn wood signs, pottery, wreaths, birdhouses and feeders, wooden bowls, crocheted items, note cards and framed photography. Some craft vendors will be on a rotating schedule.

Follow us on Facebook for frequent updates, including a weekly newsletter with info on What’s At The Market This Week, featured music and other special happenings. The website offers more information on vendors, their products, music and photos – https://www.catawbafarmersmarket.com/. The CVFM is a collaborative project of the Virginia Tech Catawba Sustainability Center, the County of Roanoke, the Catawba Ruritan Club and members of the Catawba Community.
